August 22nd 2003 - Even though St. Thomas' last album, "Hey Harmony," was released only six months ago, the follow-up album has already been recorded. Sunday August 10th, Thomas brought along drummer Karim Sayed to Robert Jønnum's self-built Protofon studio in Etnedal, and recorded the entire album during the following five days. Thomas played all the instruments himself on the album, apart from the drums which were handled by Karim, and the bass which Robert took care of. In addition to recording the material that has been written, demoed and played live over the last couple of weeks, Thomas also wrote four new songs in the small guest bedroom of Robert and girlfriend Guro Strande's house, which was quite a natural place to stay, as Robert built his studio in a farm house some fifty metres away from where they stay. The album, which will most likely be entitled "Let's Grow Together - The Comeback Of St. Thomas" and be released in January or February next year, will feature twelve tracks plus the bonus material at the end of the last track which has been on all of St. Thomas' studio albums. Working titles for the album included "The New St. Thomas" and "Idol," the idea for the latter would have been to feature a drawing of a nude St. Thomas on the cover. Robert Jønnum recorded some of the songs on St. Thomas debut album "Mysterious Walks," and produced "I'm Coming Home" in a hut outside of Bergen in Spring 2000. Part of the idea behind the title of the album and having Robert Jønnum record it is that this is supposed to be a step back to the old St. Thomas, both musically and visually, as Thomas has been quite dissatisfied with how "Hey Harmony" turned out and with all the commercial things he has taken part in during the last year. So from now on you will not see St. Thomas appearing on Topp 20 hit-shows or hearing the follow-up to the hit single "A Long Long Time" on the radio. August 4th 2003 - The concert section has been heavily updated. Firstly, all the dates for the European tour this Autumn that have been confirmed so far have been added at the bottom. Most of the dates at the end of the tour will most likely be in England, information about the dates to be confirmed or to be announced will be added as soon as it is available. Secondly, all information about the concerts in 2003 has been double-checked with Thomas, so now every visitor of this page can make sure he or she knows exactly at which concerts Thomas played the banjo or Henrik Horge and Steinar added their spectacular dancing abilities to the St. Thomas live performance. Not a lot else has been done with this page lately, simply because I have not had a lot of time to focus on it. I have been very busy working on a St. Thomas video documentary that I will finish filming for at Øyafestivalen in Oslo next weekend, and when following Thomas to Protofon Studios in Etnedal, where he will start recording his fourth album next Sunday. Hopefully the documentary will be finished in time for a release, maybe on DVD if we are lucky, to co-incide with the planned release of the next St. Thomas album some time early next year. Keep your fingers crossed. |
