October 20th 2002 - Has it really been such a long time since the last update? At least Thomas has been posting a few messages in the meantime. The recording session with Mark Nevers at Beech House Recording Mega-Plex in Nashville, Tennessee is now over, and the finishing touches to what will become St. Thomas third album "Hey, Harmony" have been made completed. They seem to have had a really nice time doing the recordings in Nashville, and the results are apparently better than anyone would expect. Here is a list of the twenty-two songs that were recorded: New Apartment Heroes Making Dinner A Long, Long Time The Red Book Ride Falling Down Sunny Day Be Cool, Be Nice Song #4 Sugarmilk Coffe In A Berliner Café Ev'rything Was Up For A Romance 45 Seconds Cowboy, Cowgirl - Moviestar, Moviestar Strengthen Your Bow Something Happened Elephants Are Big! Like A Big Time Don't Believe In A Mushroom Institution America People In The Forest Who'll Stop The Rain "Don't Believe In A Mushroom" is a cover of a still-unreleased song by Ring. "Who'll Stop The Rain" is a cover of a Creedence Clearwater Revival song with Dave Cloud on guest vocals. Expect to see at least a majority of these songs released on two EP's and "Hey, Harmony" in Spring 2003. The people who participated in the recordings in Nashville were Thomas Hansen, Tony Crow (Lambchop), Matt Swanson (Lambchop), Jeremy Barnes (Neutral Milk Hotel and Bablicon), Howe Gelb (Giant Sant), Espen Mellingen (Ai Phoenix), Bosse Litzheim (Ai Phoenix) and Dave Cloud. Mark Nevers (Lambchop) produced, gave everyone a place to sleep, and made good food. St. Thomas will now do an American tour before Thomas, Bosse and Espen return to Europe. Check out the concert chronology for dates and information. The interview that I did with Thomas right before he left for Nashville has been typed up, edited and been given a finishing touch. Now it just has to pass some proof-reading and go a round or two at the record label to make sure that everything is in order before it gets published. It will be published here on this page some time in the very near future, along with some nice pictures from the interview session. October 3rd 2002 - In one of the last messages from Thomas, he mentioned they were currently doing a cover of "Don't Believe In A Mushroom" by Ring, and that they might do a recording of that one. When asked about what it felt like to have St. Thomas do a cover of his songs, Filip Ring Andersen replied "To be done a cover of is an honour. And when St. Thomas does it, it is HUGE! I am looking forward to hearing what it sounds like." "Don't Believe In A Mushroom" is an un-released Ring song, it will be released on the new Ring album "Ring & His Absinthe Cloud" which will be released on Orange Twin in January. October 2nd 2002 - Thomas has started posting news from the recordings in Nashville in his messages section. It looks like he is planning on posting a new update from every day, which should end up as a very interesting read for all St. Thomas fans. I would like to give huge thanks to Thomas for taking his time and doing this for all those who care about his music. The discography has had a major update. Hopefully scans of most of the covers will also be available some time soon. Other than that I am working on transcribing the interview I did with Thomas about a week ago. It is very long, so writing it into text from the MiniDisc recording takes a lot of time. But the interview itself looks very promising, the Norwegian version will be posted on this page as soon as I am finished with the transcription, while an English version will be posted as soon as I have time to translate. |
