News Page January 2002: News from the St. Thomas world, and page updates in January 2002. Click here for latest news.

January 30th 2002 - Twenty-three new articles have been added to the articles page. Two of them are in English, one in German and one in Swedish, the rest are in Norwegian. I have no idea how many articles there are in total now, but there should be enough for anyone to read until they faint...

The "Cornerman" video was shown on the German music channel VIVA+ last night, as part of their hour-long "Alternative" program. The program is always re-run on Wednesday nights, in other words tonight, at one o'clock.

The Norwegian news-portal Nettavisen put up an interesting article about St. Thomas on the 28th, which can be read here. The article is based on a recent telephone-interview with Thomas, and should be an interesting read.

January 26th 2002 - Four new articles added to the articles section. Including two in English, thanks a lot to Jan Saghaug for the links.

January 25rd 2002 - According to St. Thomas' booking agency, Helter Skelter, the five concert dates in Britain between February 22nd and 27th will be as special guest to Richard Hawley. Hawley is probably most known as the guitar player of Pulp, but recently released a rather well-acclaimed solo album.

Norwegian Ballade put up an interesting article about the MIDEM gathering in France. According to the article, Racing Junior have now got an office in London. It also mentions that St. Thomas was featured in MOJO Magazine's "New names, tommorows stars?" section in a newly-published edition, and that he has also been mentioned in Q Magazine, ID, The Times, Daily Telegraph and Uncut. You can read the article, in Norwegian, here.

January 23rd 2002 - An articles section has been added. So far there are twenty-five articles available, all of them are in Norwegian and there is a link to both a text-only version of the article hosted by this page and the original version on the page of the publisher.

As City Slang partly gets distributed through Virgin, the German Virgin website, virgin.de, have put up an own page for St. Thomas Currently there is nothing there except for the tracklist of "I'm Coming Home" plus the forthcoming tour dates in Germany.

The City Slang page quotes Q Magazine as having written "what Kings Of Convenience do for folk-pop fellow norwegian St Thomas does for al-country."

January 20th 2002 - St. Thomas' "I'm Coming Home" album will be released in the UK on January 28th and in the rest of Europe on February 4th by City Slang. It will be released in USA by Misra Records in April. It has already been released in Norway and Sweden by Racing Junior.

St. Thomas has been nominated for two prices at the underground music award Alarm, in the Rock category and for best song with "Cornerman." The award show takes place at Rockefeller in Oslo, Norway on February 2nd. You can vote for St. Thomas, or the others for that sake, by visiting the Alarm page.

The chronology page has been updated with what seems to be the complete Norwegian and European tour in February and March. A couple of venues are still unannounced, though. Thanks to City Slang for the information.

A links section has been added to the page. When it comes to this page having been updated two days in a row, I promise it will never happen again...

January 19th 2002 - I went to the VIVA ZWEI festival at Volksbühne in Berlin, Germany last night, where St. Thomas played. They did a ten-song set that started with three unreleased songs. Thomas told the audience that the City Slang people had asked him to play the 'hits,' but instead he wanted to start with some songs that he had written last week and that the band had only rehearsed twice, as he thought these were the best songs he had written.

The performance was far from flawless, but it included a lot of talk between almost every song, most of which seemed to humour the audience. After the tenth song they got permission from the organizer to play one more song, but Thomas had already asked the audience if they wanted to hear more, and since someone yelled 'no' he said he was not interested in playing any more then.

It has to be mentioned that this was the second time he asked the audience this question, and that a majority of the audience yelled 'yes' both times. But there is always a rotten apple who has to ruin everything...

After the performance I met Thomas, who told me that they were a bit unhappy with the concert, that they had done too many mistakes. But this was due to the fact that they had not played together for a long time. He also revealed that they will go on a Norwegian and European tour in February and March.

The reason I got to meet him was due to a grim example of German strictness, he and the other members of the band were not allowed to go into the actual venue to see the next band play, as the venue was full and they had rules about not letting more people in there when it was full. That the people were from a band on the bill did not seem to matter, they were told to go to the backstage area instead...

When it comes to this page, Thomas said he had visited it and that he liked it. Since hearing that made me really happy, I have updated the chronology and biography, and added a pictures section.

January 10th 2002 - Four dates have been added to the Concert Chronology, three of them upcoming events. St. Thomas will play at Borderline in London, England on the 16th, and at Volksbühne in Berlin, Germany on the 18th. Also, he will play at Folken in Stavanger, Norway on March 6th, most likely as part of a Norwegian tour.

The concert on the 18th is part of a festival to celebrate the German television channel VIVA ZWEI, a really nice alternative music channel who had their last broadcast on the 6th and have now been replaced by a crappy, commercial music channel.

According to the Racing Junior website, Thomas Hansen has now moved to Berlin, Germany to work on his next album.

For those who did not know, the person writing this is called Reidar A. Eik, and I am the creator of this webpage. From this date, this page will be updated as and when I feel like it. I hope everyone likes this page as much as I do. Many thanks to Andreas Tellefsen for making very nice artwork for St. Thomas' first album, some of which I have stolen and used for the design of this page.
