September 13th 2007 - News from the Flipper camp... during the last week of August the band recorded their next album with none other than the incredible Jack Endino at an undiclosed location in Washington state. Eight songs, amounting to around 40 minutes, were fully recorded, two others are still lacking vocals. There was a slight hold-up since Flipper played in Portland prior to recording and Bruce had his bag stolen, which not only contained personal documents and medical supplies, but also all lyrics for the new material, so everything had to be retrieved from memory and demo tapes. In case you are from Portland and happen to come across any of Bruce's things, please let us know... Some of the new songs were debuted at the show at Dante's in Portland. Most of them are up-tempo, with one particular song standing out - slow, grinding, classic Flipper. Both the show in Portland and the one in Seattle a few days later were professionally recorded by Jack. Release of the new album is intended for spring next year and there is talk about a European tour around the same time.

Next dates:

Sep 14 - Cafe du Nord, San Francisco
Sep 15 - Henry Fonda Theater, Los Angeles w/ Mudhoney, The Melvins

November 16th 2006 - Los Angeles 11/15/06 : Flipper has announced the next evolution of the band which now includes Krist Novoselic (Nirvana). Krist has joined ranks to fill the bass guitar slot left open by Bruno DeMartis who ended his stint with the band in September after a year’s worth of shows on both coasts.

Flipper is planning to rerelease their back catalogue next year which will include an album’s worth of never before released tracks from the “Gone Fishin” sessions in 1984. In all, there will be six releases over the course of 2007. In addition the band will begin writing new material for a new album which could be ready sometime next year, as well.

The seminal punk / grunge band kicks off the next chapter in it’s career with a December tour which includes dates in the US, UK, and Ireland. The first US dates are on Dec. 1st in Seattle at El Corazon, and Dec. 2nd in Portland at Dante’s. Then it’s across the pond to play the annual “All Tomorrows Parties” festival with Iggy and the Stooges, Sonic Youth, and The Melvins. Flipper continues a tour of the UK and Ireland with The Melvins and Big Business, then wraps it up with a Christmas Gala in San Francisco at Cafe Du Nord on Dec 20.

The Christmas show will include a screening of “Emerald City”, a slightly dark comedy which has Santa Claus being shot while in pursuit of his daughter, who’s been kidnapped by Flipper’s Ted Falconi. The film also has vintage footage of Flipper and The Mutants.

US Dates:

Dec 1 Seattle - El Corazon

Dec 2 Portland - Dante’s

Dec 20 San Francisco - Cafe Du Nord

Dec 8 Minehead - ATP festival “Nightmare Before Christmas”

May 14th 2002 - Here is a review of the 'Not' Flipper performance at 924 Gilman St. in Berkeley, California on March 9th, written by Sergio Acevedo from Lo-Fi Neisans:

"March 9th at Gillman St. in Berkeley, California was an incredible night. My band Lo-Fi Neisans had the opportunnity of openning this show for Flipper! Or 'Not' Flipper as they wanted to call it since Bruce was the only original member, I believe Ted didn't have a guitar amp or something so he couldn't make it. Anyway, Josh (who was in the band for a short time and often a special guest of Flipper in the early days) played the bass, Michael Belfer (from The Sleepers) played guitar, Greg (I believe) played drums, Meri St. Mary singed and danced, they had a sax player (Big Josh) and of course Bruce Loose. It was an all star show."

"They played for about an hour, "Sex Bomb," "Life," "Ever," an amazing 18 minute version of "Shine" which Josh did a great job singing and Bruce played the bass, "Way Of The World," "Ha Ha Ha" and other, and the final song was a 20-minute "The Wheel," my favorite song that night, they even took requests from the audience. They sounded better than ever, Bruce's voice was as great as always, Michael Belfer was great on the guitar, everything was perfect, they had really cool t-shirts for sale ('Not' Flipper t-shirts), sax sounded great, Meri St. Mary was incredible, drums were great, I don't know what else to say... It was my first time seeing them live, unfortunately when they were playing I was too young and in Colombia, but it was an honor playing with them, meeting them (they are such nice people), and it was incredible seeing them play. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen, lucky for the ones who were there. It was inspiring. I really hope this was not the last Flipper or 'Not' Flipper or whatever they want to call it, but I really think they are sounding great and they should at least consider doing a few more shows, come on Bruce! A few more, come on guys! A few more, pleease! We need you."

"The whole show was fun at 924 Gilman. Deficient opened, a punk band called Stalker Potential was good, The Sick was good, my band Lo-Fi Neisans tried our best, we were actually scheduled to play with them a month earlier at the Gilman but they postponed the show to March and we were the only band who also postponed in order to play with them since we were so exited to play with FLIPPER. As Bruce told me later he also thought it was a fun night, very diverse in sound and styles he said '...very much like the shows in the late 70's fastslowloudartpunk bands...' I hope we have more nights like that and hopefully with Flipper or 'Not' Flipper again, come on guys! A few more! Maybe next time we can hear "If I Can't Be Drunk," "Oh! Oh! Ay! Oh!," "Love Canal" and "New Rules No Rules," which they didn't play this time."

Thanks a lot to Sergio Acevedo for this.

April 1st 2002 - Added eight pictures, three posters and one ticket stub to the pictures section, which is now open.

February 27th 2002 - Apparently 'the closest thing to Flipper you will see these days' will perform on March 9th at Gillman St Theater in Berkeley, California. If anyone is going there I would be glad to put up a review later on this page. View the 'promo poster' here.

Here is what Bruce Lose wrote about it:
"My name is Bruce Loose. I was in a band called Flipper for 15-19 yrs. Lots of people like the music. I can no longer play with my former band mates, so, since basically breaking my back, I'm starten to feel like playing again. Don't take this as an invite to think im back preforming full time, but I would like you to know this. A band called Notflipper is playing march 9th at Gillman St Theater in Berkeley California. All ages early show (over by midnight?) $5.00 at the door no advanced sales. Any way I will be in this band, it will be the closest thing to Flipper you will see in these days and ages."

January 20th 2002 - The entire "Gone Fishin'" album added to the lyrics page. Also added lyrics to "The Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly." Another review added to articles page.

January 13th 2002 - An addition to the articles page. An MP3 of Flipper's cover of the Metallica tune "Sad But True" is now available in the sounds section. An MP3 of Flipper's cover of Nirvana's "Scentless Apprentice" will be up soon.

October 19th 2001 - Added a lot of stuff to the discography and added a Flipper timeline, written by Bruce Loose for this page, to the biography. Thanks a lot to Bruce for that.
